Overview of HTLV1 associated HTLV1-HIV coinfection
The two retroviruses of human T‐lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV‐I) and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV‐1) are the causative agents of severe and fatal diseases including adult T‐cell leukemia (ATL) and the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Both viruses have common characteristic property of targeting the human blood cells for their replication. In the last 10 years, HIV‐1/HTLV‐1 co‐infection has emerged as a worldwide health problem (PMID: 25319617).
