Overview of HIV associated HIV-HCV-HBV-HDV coinfection
Active infection occurs more often in people with HIV/AIDS and in those who smoke. Infection with these viruses typically requires long-lasting drug therapy. (PMID: 34023004). For example, Lamivudine is a ideal drug to be associated with raltegravir in hepatitis B, C and D viruses (HBV/HCV/HDV)/HIV-experienced people with several clinical conditions after liver transplantation (PMID: 17434401). Because of the similar modes of contamination (contaminated medical injections, infected blood transfusions, sexual transitions, and intravenous drug use with unreliable materials), co-infection with viral hepatitis and HIV is often observed in most countries.
