In contrast to cell cycle arrest, only HIV-1 Q65R/HIV-2 Q70R Vpr lost the ability to damage DNA (Fig. 6B and Fig. S6C), indicating that damage of DNA occurs independently of cell cycle arrest and of the Vpr-host protein-protein interactions assayed here.
