In the 1999 survey, serum HBV DNA determined by real-time PCR in 2 HBsAg-negative mutant-infected patients (T131I and N146I) was <103 copies/mL for both patients, whereas a higher viral load was found in another 5 HBsAg (+), mutant-infected patients (range, 106.6–109 copies/mL).
