Importantly, the reduction of virus infectivity by itself does not necessarily cause the defect in the cell-cycle independence for infection, because some CA mutants that exhibit reduced overall infectivity still maintain the same property to infect nondividing cells as efficiently as dividing cells (for example, the P38A and K70A mutations;Figure 1A).
