Because of the overlap between the viral polymerase and envelope genes, the rtV173L, rtA181V, rtA181T, rtM204V, and rtM204I polymerase substitutions are associated with sE164D, sL173F, sW172Stop, s195M, and s196L/S/Stop mutations in the S domain of the three envelope proteins, respectively (Fig. 1).
