The C2304A mutation results in a proline to glutamine substitution at amino acid 135 of HBcAg (P135Q; Figure 1), whereas the G1896A mutation results in a precore stop codon. In the survival analysis, the presence of C2304A (P135Q) and G1896A during the inflammatory phase predicted spontaneous HBeAg seroconversion (HR = 2.8 and 4.5; P = .01 and <.001, respectively; Table 3).
