Evidence These mapped to three conserved residues: G59 and E62 in the second alpha helix of the cytoplasmic domain, and R45 in the first alpha helix. A cluster of Vpus had defects that mapped to A50V or -T changes, which accounted for the suboptimal activity of the majority of Vpus isolated from NP1 (Figure 6).
