Evidence For example, in chronic infection, G to A point mutation at nucleotide (nt) 1896 in the pre-core (pre-C) region as well as A1762T and G1764A mutations in the core-promoter region are highly associated with HBeAg seroconversion that in general results in the low levels of viremia and consequent clinical cure. In contrast, acute infection with the G1896A pre-C mutant represents a high risk for fulminant hepatic failure.
