Result: An additional aa change was also present in S2 subunit HRP2 region (V1176F) of MT21774/2020 (Figure 3C).
Discussion: The V1176F aa change (MT21774 sequence) is located in the short S2 subunit, region involved in viral envelope fusion with cell membrane after ACE2-receptor binding, TMRPSS2 priming and endocytosis.

Discussion: The spike protein mutation V1176F results in increased stability of the spike protein and has also been associated with higher mortality rates.
