8Discussion: Demonstration of a common
M125T mutation amongst all samples sequenced resonates with the fact that point mutations are frequently observed in the first loop of the ""a"" epitope (a.a.124-147) of the
surface antigen in
OBI isolates."
Abstract: In addition, a virus
surface antigen mis-sense mutation resulting in
M125T was detected in all the samples and could account for
surface antigen negativity and occult HBV status.
Result: All the mutations were synonymous, except
T528C which resulted in an amino acid change (
Met125Thr) in the '
a' determinant of the
S protein.
