Result: In the preCore region, G1896A was the most common mutation (55.2%), whereas other mutations that prevent HBeAg synthesis, such as those affecting the preCore initiation codon (nt 1814-1816), mutations (C1817T, G1897A), insertions and deletions that create a premature stop codon, were observed in a lower frequency (33.3%).

Abstract: A rare double mutation (C1857T together with G1897A) was observed, and C1856T was found together with the emerging G1898A mutation, which itself was found to be more widespread geographically than previously described.
